Five years after severe fire damage left this Grade II listed building structurally unstable, contaminated and at risk of collapse, Faithdean undertook the challenge of restoring and safeguarding this important historic asset through a carefully managed refurbishment.
Early works prioritised stabilisation, with emergency structural interventions securing the building and protecting neighbouring properties under the close oversight of insurers and conservation stakeholders. Selective strip‑out and environmental cleaning followed, retaining as much original fabric as possible while enabling extensive structural remediation.
Lost capacity was reinstated, and the slate mansard and lead roof were reconstructed to restore the building’s historic profile. Fire protection and building standards were comprehensively upgraded, discreetly integrated to preserve the building’s character. New services, including comfort cooling, passenger lifts and a screened plant deck, were sensitively introduced alongside a new oak staircase within the fire‑damaged core.
The completed Cat A fit‑out delivers high‑quality, flexible workspace, securing the building’s long‑term future use.
